Welcome to the new Pacifica.org - a completely revised website from Pacifica Radio! This new site features more Pacifica programming - in a layout that is much easier to use (and flexible) than ever before!

First, regarding the new look of the site, you will notice a set of icons of the top right of the page - these icons allow you to customize the look of this website, allowing for up to 12 color combinations (to allow you to make this more personal ), 3 different font sizes (to accommodate for various visual needs), and 3 page widths (to accommodate for different screen sizes).

In terms of content, you can find the most recent Pacifica program segments on the new homepage, organized by current and important topics - currently these segments are mainly Democracy Now!, and FRSN, but potentially, these segments can originate from any of the 360 plus Pacifica programs.

At the core of the new Pacifica.org is a custom program directory, which gives you the ability to find Pacifica's educational, and empowering programs either by topic or by station. If you prefer by topic (these topics are also known as 'tags') you will initially see a large Pacifica "tag cloud" that displays the tags with more segments associated to them larger than other tags, with few segments (this is useful and pretty cool), then you can go directly to segments and programs related to your topic (tag) of choice.

You can find Pacifica's programs by station, where you will see today's program schedule from each of the respective Pacifica stations: KPFA, KPFK, KPFT, WBAI, WPFW or view all Pacifica programming together .

Even with all of this, there are more features to come in the following weeks and months. For example, soon registered users will be able to leave comments with each segment, allowing for direct feedback to our producers and hosts and creating a space for you contribute and communicate with other 'Pacificans' directly around programming and topics!

Major Improvements Include:

  • All of Pacifica's programs are at your fingertips, instead of a handful of programs - the new site can showcase all of Pacifica's [360 plus] programs, from all 5 of the sister stations
  • Programs are easily displayed by topics (so you can keep track of issues that matter most to you)
  • Segments and programs will include audio links, where audio archives are available
  • More ways to stay in touch, with RSS Syndication, and a personal "MyPacfica.org" feature coming soon, allowing you to save and display your favorite programs and topics
  • Much improved navigation - easier to find much more information using a new drop down menu system and improved overall layout
  • 12 different appearances to choose from, including:
    • Multiple color accents - is green your color, is it blue, perhaps black, or is red more you? With the new Pacifica.org you can set the color accents you prefer (just use the ).
    • Multiple background colors - do you prefer a light, dark or medium background, you can choose the one you like best!
    • Multiple font sizes - if you prefer larger, or smaller font size, you can control that

For the Public

Much of the improvements have been made with you, the public, in mind! Some of the new features include:

  • Much more programming, and available via multiple paths. Over 360 Pacifica programs sorted by:
    • by topic (issue) alongside similar programming - so you can find programming from our other sister stations you'll enjoy!
    • by station alongside the other sister station's programs listed by day and time
  • coming soon: Personalize your Pacifica.org visit - You can set up a MyPacifica.org Mainpage, where you can go right to your favorite topics (issues) and programs
  • coming soon: Email announcements can be sent to your when new programs in the areas of interest your choose, are added to our site
  • Its commercial free, and free to you - best of all, in the spirit of Pacifica's mission to bring about a more peaceful world, we offer all of this to you for free. If you like what you hear, or read, please consider sending us a donation.

For Producers

Pacifica.org As A Shared (Pacifica) Resource

One of the overall objectives was to convert Pacifica.org into a shared resource. Thus the main benefit to Pacifica producers, hosts, and programmers is equal access to posting on a highly relevant "progressive news" site, including various tools to let you communicate with your audience:

  • You can add your shows to the site, and it will link to your station's archives [* if mp3 archives are available by your Pacifica station]
  • Your shows and segments will be available to visitors by topic, so your program can be showcased with similar programming from another Pacifica sister station.
  • Direct access to a website that Google.com rates as highly relevant [7 of 10], and top 10 ranked progressive news site [#8 overall rank for "progressive news" on a recent search]
  • coming soon: Registered users ("Jane Webuser" visiting Pacifica.org) can write up comments per show segment, allowing for feedback, dialogue and community building - a great tool for communicating with Pacifica listeners [see flickr where they respond to photos, at Pacifica.org they can respond to show segments].
  • coming soon: Registered users can receive email notifications of new programs and segments from their favorite programmers - this is a Pacifica newsletter that you and your programs will have access to!
