Roy Campanella IIBERKELEY (Nov. 8) Producer and media veteran Roy Campanella, II, has been named as the new general manager of Pacifica Radio station KPFA 94.1 FM in Berkeley, Pacifica announced today.

"I'm honored to lead KPFA into this new era where community radio and independent media are going to be more important than ever," said Campanella.

With a distinguished career in film production spanning more than 20 years, Campanella has produced and directed TV movies, primetime episodes, and independent documentaries, including the award-winning "Brother Future."Brother Future

"I look forward to working with the staff, the Local Station Board, and the wider Pacifica community around the country to build and expand Pacifica's unique and innovative programming," he said.

The appointment of Campanella concludes a six-month search process that reviewed more than 150 applicants and involved a broad array of KPFA staff, listeners, community groups, as well as local and national board members.

"We are delighted to have chosen someone with the depth of media experience as Roy Campanella," said Dan Coughlin, the executive director of the five-station Pacifica Radio network. "He brings to KPFA a wide variety of media skills and experiences as well a proven commitment to the Pacifica mission."

Campanella succeeds interim KPFA General Manager Jim Bennett, the station's operations director. Under Bennett's tenure, KPFA posted record fund-drives and listenership growth.

An honors graduate of Harvard College, Campanella also has an MBA from Columbia University where he received the Louis G. Cowan award for excellence in media management.

Campanella's late father and namesake is the legendary Baseball Hall of Famer who, along with Jackie Robinson, helped to integrate the major leagues.
