A full-scale U.S. attack on Iraq seems almost inevitable. If bombing of Iraq commences, the Pacifica Radio Network, including Free Speech Radio News, Democracy Now! and other affiliated Community Radio Stations will produce two consecutive days of 18-hour special war coverage.

The Pacifica coverage of the war, international response, and protest movements, will provide a crucial and critical alternative to the corporate television and radio news. More than ever, this coverage will provide grass roots, rapid response reporting for information much needed by the American public.

Pacifica Radio and Friends will provide a most important national perspective. All 5 of the Pacifica stations, KPFA in Berkeley, CA, KPFK in Los Angeles, CA, KPFT in Houston, TX, WBAI in New York, NY, and WPFW in Washington DC, will be participating in these 2 days of special coverage. In addition to the Pacifica stations, Democracy Now!, Free Speech Radio News, and Pacifica affiliated stations KGNU in Boulder, CO, KCSB in Santa Barbara, CA, and WMNF in Tampa, FL will be producing coverage. More than 10 more community radio station around the country will provide moment-by-moment reporting on the local events and the American protest response.

The coverage will be broad ranging and will include diverse perspectives. As well as local protest activism on the streets, there will be live call-in shows where people can voice their reactions to the bombing, representatives from 'Voices in the Wilderness' who are still residing in Baghdad and other journalists will provide on-the-ground reporting, and dozens of international, national, and local humanitarian and diplomatic experts will provide their analysis.

The Pacifica news anchors will include, Robert Knight (WBAI), Amy Goodman (Democracy Now!), Verna Avery-Brown (Peace Watch / WPFW), Sonali Kalhartar (KPFK), Jackson Allers (KPFT), Renee Feltz (KPFT), Larry Bensky (National Affairs Correspondent / KPFA), and Dennis Bernstein (Flashpoints). The guests will include: Tony Benn (retired British MP), Phyllis Bennis (Institute for Policy Studies), Ali Abunimah (Vice President Arab American Action Network), Danny Glover, Kathy Kelly (Voices in the Wilderness), and many others.

Included in the special coverage will be some of Pacifica's daily news magazines. Democracy Now! will be airing from 8 to 10 AM (Eastern Standard Time), Peace Watch will be airing between 6PM and 8PM, and Flashpoints will be airing at 8 PM. Free Speech Radio News and Pacifica’s affiliate stations will provide headline news at the top of every hour, featuring both international news and local responses throughout the United States.

Coverage will be from 6:00 AM until midnight Eastern Standard Time, for two consecutive days following commencement of the bombing. Coverage will begin immediately when the bombing starts. If bombing begins after midnight, coverage will begin at 6:00AM. A broadcast quality stream will be made available on the Internet for a limited number of interested community radio stations to pick up.

Community Radio stations that are interested in carrying this special coverage should contact Pacifica Radio's interim Affiliate Coordinator, Ursula Ruedenberg at 917-681-6805, or by email at ursula@pacifica.org.
