Host: Johnny Otis About Johnny Since his arrival at KPFA a few years ago from Los Angeles, R&B legend Johnny Otis has brought a kick to Saturday mornings. With wit, wisdom and a deep love for Rhythm and Blues, the Afro-American artform he helped pioneer, this Vallejo, California born legend is a true national treasure. His legacy as a bandleader, musician, producer, and humanitarian has gained him induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His hits include: “With Every Beat of my Heart,” “Hound Dog,” and Willie and the Handjive.” Johnny is currently teaching a course at Berkeley’s Black Repertory Theater on the evolution of African-American Music. His latest CD is entitled, “Rhythm and Blues Swing Dance Party.”
