Weekly review of politics and culture bringing you the voices of the voiceless from Kolkata to Casablanca. Mission Statement of SWANA Collective of KPFK: Our goal is to provide in depth news, commentary and analysis presenting a comprehensive picture of the region -- in accordance with the Pacifica Mission Statement. While providing a historical and cultural context for all current events, the programs will reveal the common effects of colonialism in the past and imperialism in the present. The programs of the collective will be situated at the heart of peoples' struggles and reflect the aspirations of the vast, oppressed majority in the region. A voice for the voiceless. Within this, particular attention will be paid to the conditions and struggles of women. One of the goals will be to identify the roadblocks to resolving the conflicts in the region. The programs will always strive to reflect the complexity and diversity of cultures in the region and will avoid narrow identity or sectarian politics. It will link the struggles of people fighting for their rights throughout the region. The community calendar will contribute to intercultural communication and solidarity by highlighting a broad range of cultural, political and social community events and resources. The programs will strive to reveal the geopolitics of the region including the competition and collusion between the big powers and local governments. The outlook of the programs will be progressive, secular and committed to the struggle for social change. As such it will give space to all forces that promote the political, social and economic renewal of society.
