Program Guide Land War in West Bengal Land War in West Bengal 2007-01-08Police attacked and arrested hundreds in West Bengal, India today during demonstrations paralyzing the city. The upheaval comes in response to the killing of farmers Sunday in the village of Nandigram about 100 miles north of the capital Kolkata. The farmers were protesting development of Special Economic Zone on their agricultural land, created by the Communist Party of India for Indonesian corporations.
