Jury selection for the trial of Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff has begun. Lewis “Scooter” Libby faces five counts of lying to federal investigators, perjury, and obstruction of justice. He is accused of lying to investigators and a grand jury during the investigation of the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame.

Plame is the wife of Ambassador Joseph Wilson who openly accused the Bush administration of manipulating and distorting pre-war intelligence on Iraq. He is also accused of attempting to conceal his role, and possibly that of others, in leaking to the media that Wilson’s wife was a CIA officer. Libby’s defense team is expected to call his former boss – Vice President Cheney – to testify as a witness.

On Sunday Chris Wallace of Fox News questioned Cheney about the case.
