On this week's Sprouts: a look back at the Spring protests in Tibet beginning with an audio journal of how the exiled Tibetan community in India responded to the crisis in their homeland.

The protests in Tibet this year began on March 10th, a hugely significant date for all Tibetans, marking the anniversary of the failed popular uprising in Lhasa in 1959. We explore the meaning of March 10th to Tibetans and why they keep taking to the streets in all weathers to commemorate this day.

Tenzin Norgay of the Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy, a small but motivated NGO in Dharamsala that monitors human rights reports out of Tibet, speaks about the logistical and ethical challenges they face in trying to tell the world about Tibet.

Tibet scholar Professor Robert Thurman speaks on why Tibet is not a lost cause and why we should care.

This edition of Sprouts is produced by Rebecca Novick of "The Tibet Connection" (www.thetibetconnection.org) on KPFK in Los Angeles, CA. Music includes "Tibet Was a Country" by Tenzin Gyalpo and Choedak from the album 'Rise Up'.
