INTRO: Police officers beat and pepper-sprayed people at
a benefit for Anarchist People of Color after arriving in
response to an officer’s report of someone standing
outside the party allegedly holding an “open container.”
An organizer for Anarchist People of Color joins us in our
studio.
Up to 100 people attending a fundraising event in Brooklyn
were sprayed with pepper spray, beaten with nightsticks, and
harassed by police officers on Saturday night.
Approximately 21 police vehicles arrived at the benefit for
Anarchist People of Color following an officer’s report
of someone standing outside the party allegedly holding an
“open container.” At least 8 people were arrested
on charges including assault, inciting a riot, and resisting
arrest.
The fundraiser held at the office of The Critical Resistance,
a national grassroots group that focuses on prisons and police
brutality.

8:21-8:40 Free Mumia Coalition Responds to Michael
Moore and His New Lawyer Discusses Recent Case Developments
INTRO: The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled against Mumia
Abu-Jamal's habeas corpus appeal last month around the same
time he was named an honorary citizen of Paris. We speak with
Robert Bryan, Mumia’s new lead attorney and Suzanne
Ross of the Free Mumia Coalition in New York City.
Citing the "untimeliness" of the evidence presented
relating to Mumia's innocence, the court refused to consider
the confession of Arnold Beverly that he, not Mumia, murdered
police officer Daniel Faulkner on December 9, 1981.
Today we hear from Pennsylvania's most famous death row inmate,
Mumia Abu Jamal.
Abu Jamal has been on death row for 20 years after being
convicted in 1982 of killing Philadelphia police officer Daniel
Faulkner. A journalist, Black Panther, MOVE member, and outspoken
critic of police brutality, racism and the death penalty,
Mumia Abu Jamal has repeatedly proclaimed his innocence.
Last month, Mumia was named an honorary citizen of Paris
by Socialist Mayor Bertrand Delanoe. Mumia is the first American
to receive the honor and only the second to be named in more
than 30 years.
Over the last two decades, Abu Jamal has written regular
commentaries on local, national and world affairs. This commentary
was recorded by the Prison Radio Project.
- Mumia Abu Jamal, commentary was recorded by the Prison

- Robert Bryan, lead attorney for Mumia Abu Jamal.
- Suzanne Ross, co-chair of the Free Mumia Coalition in
