Country" - Muslim-Americans Say Racial Profiling Led
to Detention, Harassment at Airport
Middle Eastern, South Asian and Muslim passengers say they
are increasingly victims of racial profiling and are being
detained and harassed at airports. We speak with an American
mother and daughter, both born in Iraq, who were held and
questioned for hours at JFK airport.
Sudan Rejects UN Proposal for Peacekeeping Force in
Darfur as Security Deteriorates
The Sudanese government rejected a draft UN resolution on
Thursday that called for a 17,000-member international security
force to be deployed to Darfur. President Bush is sending
a senior envoy to Khartoum to try to persuade the ruling party
to accept the peacekeeping force. We speak with Smith College
professor and Sudan expert, Eric Reeves.
Report: Over 200 Sudanese Women Sexually Assaulted
in Darfur Camp Over 5-Week Period
The International Rescue Committee released a report this
week documenting an alarming rise in instances of sexual violence
in Darfur. According to the IRC, more than 200 female residents
of one refugee camp have been victims of sexual assault in
the past five weeks alone.
Venezuela Says China Backs UN Security Council Bid
That U.S. Opposes
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced after his meeting
with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing that China had
expressed support for Venezuela's bid to join the United Nations
Security Council. The U.S. is seeking to block Venezuela's
bid for a seat and is backing Guatemala instead.
