Day three from the Republican National Convention, and
it was Dick Cheney night! It was amazing how many Dick Cheney
look alikes there are here at Madison Square Garden, so
many Republicans look like Cheney! Our night time show guest,
John Nichols, gave chilling facts of Cheney's overwhelming
power over our administration, with his deep ties to the
multinational oil corporations and defense industries.
1800 people have been arrested and are being held in a
concrete holding pen on the piers. Reportedly, diesel fuel
stains on the floors are causing rashes. Luckily, Free Speech
Radio News producer Mic Milin was released from jail yesterday
after spending the night, but we are still trying to get
her possessions from the police.
Things are very tense today, and George & Laura Bush
are already here, practicing their appearance. George W
practiced in short, incoherent chunks - hmmmm, do you think
he does that on purpose?
We've just been "checked" by our plain clothes
NYPD officer, Dudciak, Badge #41, even though he knows we
have proper credentials..he demanded Davey D's on Monday
night while Davey was on the air, even though he had checked
them 45 minutes before. The streets may really erupt today,
but we hope that no one gets hurt. Police have been working
long hours, and of course Bush just got rid of overtime!
Pacifica Radio and IndyMedia/NYC reporters have really
been working hard, too, to bring you this great sound below!
Tune in tonight, 9:30pm Eastern for our last show from
here, with Deepa Fernandes/WBAI New York, Larry Bensky/KPFA
Berkeley, and Jerry Quickley/KPFK Los Angeles or pacifica.org

The
Pacifica team had its first arrests, Free Speech Radio News
technical producer and reporter Mic Milin was arrested Tuesday
walking down the street by our hotel. She was surrounded
by seven NYPD officers for having a small Swiss Army Knife
(ironically sold as a souvenir in our hotel), which she
uses for her work, on her belt. She spent the night in a
cement Warehouse near the piers with 1500 other people fighting
for our democracy, and we hope for her release Wednesday.
WBAI's Emanuel Goldstein, producer of the program 'Off
the Hook' and with the magazine '2600', has also been arrested
in downtown Manhattan. He was arrested along with dozens
of others while standing on the sidewalk in Union Square.
Other press members were let out, but police refused Emmanuel's
press credentials and arrested him.
We have reports of other Pacifica and IndyMedia/NYC people
arrested and will update this page as we get more information.
While anchoring the Monday night show, KPFA's Davey D
was harassed by an NYPD plain clothes police officer. Davey,
the only African American on our aisle at the time, had
been ordered by the same officer to show his credentials
an hour before. WBAI's Deepa Fernandes was harassed trying
to enter Madison Square Garden yesterday by a different
NYPD plain clothes officer, and was almost prevented from
coming to out booth. We have filed a complaint with the
RNC and are considering further action.
There are many courageous people here in New York City
risking their freedom for the good of the rest of us. Please
do what you can in your own way to join the peaceful struggle
for democracy.

Greetings
from Pacifica Radio Network from the streets of New York
City and the Republican National Convention. It is an historical
experience to be here - over 400,000 people from all over
the United States and the world marching in a human "river"
down 7th avenue for hours on Sunday [see
some pictures], mixed in with thousands of the most
conservative Republicans in the nation, adds up to human
drama extrordinaire, and a fight for our democracy.
Pacifica journalists from all over the network are doing
exceptional reporting, along with hundreds of IndyMedia/NYC
reporters, to bring you the best news you will never hear
on mainstream media. Listen to the new Pacifica internet
station, where you can access the 24 hour stream by going
