Dennis Bernstein: introduction: The Knight Report.. An Eyewitness
account of Israel’s latest attack on Gaza that killed
a preganant woman.. US Bugging the UN Security Council: an
interview with the journalist who broke the story.. another
edition of Kathy Kelly’s *Baghdad Journal*.. Donald
Rumsfeld asks permission to use chemical weapons against the
Iraqis..
8:00:55 PM PST
Robert Knight and the Knight Report.. Robert: Turkish parliment
excisizes democracy, votes NO TO BUSH'S WAR!.. US Fleet now
homeless in the Mediterranean Sea.. moonless invasion plans
on hold.. Arab summit slides away from US control..

Dennis: Israeli colonizers today killed at least 8 people
including Nuha Sabri Swidan, a 33-year-old full-term pregnant
woman, her unborn child, and a 13 year old boy.. (Palestine
Chroicle report) (Electronic Intifada story).. now w eyewitness
International Solidarity Movement (ISM) member, Jenny, from
London.. Jenny: last night we were terrified by the sounds
of Israeli shooting, airplanes, bombs.. a canopy in the road
today, under it all women.. I was taken in because I an an
old woman.. the dead boy had been shot by the Israelis.. shot
in the mouth.. in the middle area of Gaza.. I got to the area
where the damage was done, I climbed over the rubble.. a large
squared of bomb damage.. a large house, the occupants were
warned.. not the other houses.. next to the house where the
bombs were placed, Nuha Sabri Swidan, a 33-year-old full-term
pregnant woman hiding behind a nearby wall, couldn't get to
the hospital, killed when the wall collapsed.. about the impact
of the bombing, the scene.. the people are horrified at what
the Israelis will do.. most people feel fear and shock, trauma..
Dennis: in America we hear that this was a 'defensive' Israeli
action.. Jenny: the label, Israeli *Defence* Forces (IDF)
is an idealogical term.. [Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF),
might be more apt].. the Israelis violate international law..
even if you take their own justification, the wanton killing
of civilians are war crimes.. IT IS TIME FOR ISRAEL BE CALLED
UPON TO OBEY INTERNATIONAL LAW.. the Americans must be colluding
with the Israelis..

Dennis: a story in the London Observer newspaper yesterday
revealed that the US National Security Agency (NSA) (at the
request of Condi Rice) is conducting a 'dirty tricks campaign'
against the members of the UN Security Council, bugging the
home and office phones.. now with Martin Bright, one of the
journalists who broke the story.. Martin: Details of the aggressive
surveillance operation, which involves interception of the
home and office telephones and the emails of UN delegates
in New York, are revealed in a top secret document (see below)
leaked to The Observer. The disclosures were made in a memorandum
written by a top official at the National Security Agency
- the US body which intercepts communications around the world
- and circulated to both senior agents in his organisation
and to a friendly foreign intelligence agency asking for its
input.. The memo describes orders to staff at the agency,
whose work is clouded in secrecy, to step up its surveillance
operations 'particularly directed at.. UN Security Council
Members (minus US and GBR, of course)' to provide up-to-the-minute
intelligence for Bush officials on the voting intentions of
UN members regarding the issue of Iraq. The leaked memorandum
makes clear that the target of the heightened surveillance
efforts are the delegations from Angola, Cameroon, Chile,
Mexico, Guinea and Pakistan at the UN headquarters in New
York - the so-called 'Middle Six' delegations whose votes
are being fought over by the pro-war party, led by the US
and Britain, and the party arguing for more time for UN inspections,
led by France, China and Russia.

Dennis: now to Baghdad with Kathy Kelly of Voices in the Wilderness..
Kathy: I was down at the border between Iraq and Kuwait..
Charles Litkey climbed up and shouted "Peace be with
you", and the UN soldiers shouted back.. an utterly desolate
and empty area.. then a huge dust storm, we climbed to the
top of a mountain, called the Camel's Hump.. a new war, ie
*massacre*, of Iraq will unleash massive bloodletting, hunger,
displacement.. we're counting on people across the United
States to take some simple actions.. sit down and block the
possibility that people all across the United States will
establish itself as a rogue superpower.. it doesn't have to
go that way..

music break 'Terrorist' written and performed by Eileen Hazel,
of the KPFA staff.. from her CD, My Interesting Condition
