Russia's foreign minister deplores US idea to force democracy.. Turkey contemplates new resolution.. but Pentagon has written off Turkey.. third Arab summit in four days.. TV coverage censored when it got critical of US.. bombers dispatched to Guam.. Israel fires five missiles into Gaza.. a car bomb in Colombia.. in Nigeria, an assassination of an oil critic.. torture at US interrogation centers in Afghanistan.. two prisoners killed with 'blunt force trauma'.

Dennis: hate crimes against Muslims on the rise in the US.. on Feb 22 beating of Rashid Alan in Southern California.. attacked by a gang of teenagers.. now with Rashid's father Ahmed Alan: I blame myself, Rashid wanted to change his name.. 20 young men, wielding bats, golf clubs.. they ripped off their shirts to show their muscles.. beat him in the head.. knocked him to the ground.. the police arrested two people.. he has all kinds of metal in his head, we have to feed him.. laying on his back, cannot move.. he has always been very polite, very quiet.. people in school would make fun of his name.. finally the police declared it a hate crime.. skinheads.. our kids dressed very nice.. the FBI has taken over the case, because the local police tried to make it out like a gang war.. the police released the two suspects that they had..

Dennis: now with Subhia Khan of the Southern California CAIR.. about Rashid.. bedridden, and will never be the same again.. Dennis: his father says the racial slurs have been going on for some time.. Subia: witnesses say they have been harrassed for months and years.. this night was a culmination.. the witnesses afraid of retaliation.. kids having to live in fear in their own neighborhoods.. in Yerba Linda, near Anaheim.. 20 people jumped out of their cars.. but the police putting out that our kids started this.. assailants yelling 'White Power', 'Kill the Arabs'.. we hear bashing of Islam by radio talk hosts, war talk by the government.. we need to call on our officials and call on our media.. these attackers just following up on what they hear in the media..

Dennis: SF top cops stood in the way of a probe into a brawl involving three officers.. now w Van Jones of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights.. Van: an unprecedented situation.. the entire top brass criminally indicted.. the son of the assistant police chief, Fagan, jumped on a civilian, drunk, and beat him.. and the top brass tried to cover it up.. the DA sent it to a grand jury.. they returned indictments.. against the three drunk officers, but the whole top brass that tried to cover it up.. the Fagan family, a notorious cop family (describes).. about police manipulating 9/11 fears..

Dennis: Today a day of protest against an attack on Iraq.. in SF hundreds of students walked out of high school and converged in downtown Oakland.. police made arrests.. now w Nick Alexander in Oakland.. Nick: students met at Martin Luther King Park in Berkeley, and rode Bart to Frank Ogawa Plaza where they met up with students from all over the bay area.. took over Broadway, and marched toward the bay.. police engaged in confrontations with students.. now w student, Demile: we are all togther here in unity.. we got carried away a bit.. marched out into the street, and the police got hectic with us.. we marched six blocks, and the police tried to barricade us.. the state in the biggest budget crisis ever.. our school is in temporary broken down site.. where is the money going? to war, that's where.. we stand in solidarity with the people of Iraq, the people of Palestine..

Dennis: now w Dr. Mark Saper fed up with the local media.. Mark: anyone who watches KQED news realizes they are whitewashing the drive to war.. a conflict of interest, they accept money from Lockheed Martin and put up their ads.. we went to KQED, with signs and leaflets.. we stayed in the main lobby.. there were three of us who refused to leave and were arrested.. in support of the Not In Our Name action today.. all of the airwaves are public.. especially PBS..
