(IOF) retake northern Gaza, killing dozens.. UN Security Council
meeting today.. Ed Rosenthal and this week's Cannibis Chronicles..
8:00:50 PM PST
Dennis: despite an encouraging report from Hans Blix, US and
UK push to give Iraq just 10 days to 'disarm'.. now w Phyllis
Bennis of the Institute for Policy Studies.. Phyllis: Another
extraordinary day at the UN.. the reports were what was anticipated..
clear that there has been a major shift in Iraqi compliance..
37 missiles destroyed.. Blix said this is serious disarmament,
these are not toothpicks.. Powell again made unsubstantiated
charges that the inspectors are bugged.. the French FM spoke
eloquently.. of going forward with inspections.. clear he
was prepared to veto.. Jack Straw passionate about going to
war.. Dennis: is there anyway to stop this war?.. Phyllis:
yes, it is not there yet.. watching Bush I saw an air of desperation..
the US is not going to get the UN resolution authorizing force..
another proposal.. setting benchmarks for inspectors in May..
the public pressure on the six undecided countries.. 3/4 million
signatures will be carried into the Security Council.. Dennis:
if Bush and Blair go to war anyway, can they be indicted as
war criminals?.. Phyllis: the UN charter is clear, going to
war in the face of a resolution against it, a crime against
peace, the basic war crime..
8:10:41 PM PST
Dennis: last night's press conference the most controlled
ever.. now w one of the reporters there, Russell Mokhiber
of the Corporate Crime Reporter.. Russell: the president had
a list of 17 reporters he was going to call upon.. Helen Thomas
is always the first and last.. last night was the first time
in thirty years she hasn't been called upon at all.. she told
a newspaper in California Bush was the worst president ever..
so she was banished to the back of the room.. Dennis: where
were the African Americans in the press corp?.. Russell: the
president had a script and he stuck to it..

8:15:45 PM PST
Dennis: Israel using the cover of the UN meeting to retake
Gaza.. now w Shawqi Issa, the executive director of Palestinian
LAW Society.. Shawqi Issa: two nights ago they reentered Jabalya
refugee camp.. yesterday night 100 tanks with air support
retook northern Gaza.. say they will be there for a long time..
they are constructing towers.. in the the West Bank they killed
a mother of 10 children.. arresting many, 60 people in the
last two nights.. the mother in Jenin.. about soldiers in
every city, coming in occupying people's houses, *asking*
the people to leave, giving the house to soldiers, usually
chose houses in corners.. this is a disaster for people in
Ramallah.. in the last two months no suicide bombs, but Israelis
made many actions to provoke Palestinians, 60 Palestinians
killed..
8:20:25 PM PST
Dennis: now w Amani in Gaza City.. Amani: this is something
huge this time.. Jabayla Camp one of the biggest in Gaza Strip..
very crowded.. two days ago a big invasion.. many people killed..
houses destroyed, a big fire.. last night they came from north,
many many tanks.. more than 80 tanks, and Apache homicide
helicopters.. on the hill where they can watch anyone.. they
are hitting anyone walking.. yesterday the first one killed
just a guy walking.. he died on the spot.. Dennis: the beginning
of the reoccupation of the Gaza Strip?.. Amani: maybe, yes..
they are well prepared.. not the first time they come to this
area.. shelling people in their houses.. very crowded, any
target surrounded by other houses and people.. every night
they come see how they can do more.. the north Gaza was easier
to move about than in the south, but now it will be the same..
they can kill whoever they want.. Dennis: the Israeli say
they are attacking in response to the latest suicide bombing,
but they have been attacking for two months?.. Amani: yes..
they want total control of the entire Gaza Strip, splitting
it into little fragments.. the settlements are all around..
Dennis: the closer the US gets to going to war on Iraq, the
worse it gets for you in Palestine?.. Amani: yes, yes.. everybody
is worried about this.. Sharon.. more heavier, more continuous,
more will be killed, no one will pay attention.. one guy killed
in the morning, three later in the south..
8:31:31 PM PST
Dennis: Israelis the other day shooting an 85 year old shephard
off his donkey and killing a 16 year old sitting in an internet
cafe.. now w Ali Abunimah, founder of the Electronic Intifada
website.. Ali: they shot the shephard dead for straying onto
'Jewish Only' land (ie stolen Palestinian land).. two Israelis
arrested for attempting to run down a Palestinian laborer..
about Sharon's new partners in government.. quite explicit
in calling for the removal of all Palestinians both inside
Israel and in the West Bank and Gaza.
8:35:55 PM PST
Dennis: now another edition of the Cannibis Chronicles with
activist Ed Rosenthal.. Ed: two major stories this week..
activist Jeff Jones ordered to surrender for three months
for handing out brochures in front of a Sacramento courthouse..
but he was released on probation.. it's a good sign, they
are listening.. on Thursday when he was to be sentenced, white
powder on envelopes, threatening letters.. not good, but people
are really outraged.. last week the Justice Dept raided 55
paraphernalia manufacturers.. and a show in Las Vegas.. last
year 30 exhibitors, this year only 10 exhibitors.. today's
topic deals with the DEA.. JUST LIKE YOU SHOULDN'T CALL A
DOCTOR WHEN YOU'RE ROBBED, YOU SHOULDN'T CALL A COP WHEN YOU'RE
ILL.. now on the phone with Dr. Ethan Rosseau MD, professor
of pharmaceutical sciences.. author of HIV, AIDS, and Cannibis..
Ed: the DEA saying medical marijuana is a fabrication.. do
you agree?.. Dr. Rosseau: no, there are only two explanations,
ignorance or malice, both unacceptable.. anyone in an official
position has an obligation to keep up on the research.. GW
Pharmaceuticals (UK) has been growing and making extracts
(used in mouth sprays) under government supervision.. a just
published article.. using the extract on 20 Multiple Sclerosis
(MS) patients that had failed all other medicines.. very good
results.. THC with other cannibinoids.. pain, spasticity..
significantly better than placebos.. effective pain relief..
other improvements.. side effects predictible.. TO DATE THERE
HAS NEVER BEEN A DOCUMENTED CASE OF LUNG CANCER IN A CANNIBIS
ONLY SMOKER.. now w phase three trial, with a large group
of patients.. 350 patients with nerve damage in their arms..
the largest clinic trial ever, a double blind cross over study..
compared THC extract with a placebo.. the THC reduced pain..
high statistical correlation.. about other studies.. medical
marijauna.. the case is proven, marijuana is medicine.. Ed:
do you think certain strains of cannibis will be developed
to treat certain illnesses?. Dr. Rosseau: yes, cannibis is
a multi modality medicine.. Dennis: do other doctors support
you?.. Dr. Rosseau: a mixed bag.. a lot of ignorance in the
medical field.. but ones educated about the literature feel
differently.. Dennis: thanks for being here.. Ed: thanks for
having me..
