and then tells of his roots and the historical elements of
populism as it evolved from oligarchy to democracy…William
Allen White…Bob La Follette…fighting to narrow
the distance from the haves and the have nots…the exploited
labor who filled the horn of plenty for others…within
100 years the new republic was consolidated into trusts and
the people were disenfranchised….1897-1901William McKinley
and Mark Hanna, precursors of G.W. Bush and Karl Rove nearly
100 years later…platitudes sold just as well 100 years
ago as they do today…of by and for the corporate class…they
just saw the loot and went for it…the rape of America
sounded like a consensual date…the elimination of the
weak and the survival of the elite…The senate as millionaires
club…the all mighty dollar moved mountains and heaped
the waste upon the electorate…the well being of a few
hinged upon the misery of the masses…Then muckrakers
came: Jacob Riis showed comfortable New Yorkers how the other
half lived…Lincoln Steffans exposing the links between
city bosses and the compromise of building codes for the workers
who built the wealth…politics is one of the principle
arts of living peacefully in the world…you don’t
have to feel guilt to love justice…
