The Knight Report: The UN Security Council failed to enact
an urgent resolution on Tuesday to defend Yassar Arafat, President
of Palestine from new threats of abduction, expulsion, or
assassination approved by Ariel Sharon's cabinet with 11 in
favor, 3 abstaining and 1 against or vetoing - the United
States.

Gulf War II Illness - Pneumonia or Not?: Dennis Bernstein
interviews Joyce Riley, nurse activist and Gulf War I veteran:
Either the military's doctor's are incompetent or are covering
up, investigative nurse Riley believes it is the latter. Pentagon
has released information that there have been 2 deaths and
a hundred infected with a 'mystery' illness now they label
as pneumonia. Both Gulf War I and Gulf War II have significant
numbers of the 'walking wounded' or 'walking dead' who have
been sent home and are currently extremely ill. A gag order
on troops in Iraq clearly spells out the coverup on this lung
filling disease. A complex set of 'symptons that appear to
be organo-phospate poisoning'. Mysterious 'hauling missions
are suspect'. The Dept. of Defense replies with the standard
refrain: "We may never know what has caused this problem".
In other words they don't want you to know what caused these
problems...

Dam-Building Projects Devastating India's Ecosystems and Communities:
Interview with Angana Chattergi, CA Institute of Integral
Studies: The Narmada River has caused over a million evictions,
damaging impact, destruction of villages, beatings, arrests
and sometimes killings. The Narmada Valley watershed is the
home to 20 million people. In Western India there are 3,000
dams planned. The largest alone will displace 400,000 people
alone. The impact of these dams on 100's of villages will
benefit rich farmers but cause the loss of spiritualities,
language, culture, ways of being that are very critical to
the preservation of the planet. This is a confrontation between
ways of being that are sustainable and non violent against
the repressive and dominant development that is modelled by
the state of India. For more information: Sept 19th Friday

Congress Overturns the FCC Ruling on Media Monopoly: Dennis
interviews John Schwartz, Free
Speech TV Founder and previous KPFA volunteer: Roughly
1 million contact FCC over the latest round of loosening ownership
rules, yet the FCC turns a deaf ear to the public outcry.
The US Senate votes 55-40 to nulify the FCC sweeping deregulation
as NRA joins Republicans, independent media and the public
in it's opposition. The Bush administration still threatens
to veto if this passes the House. Clear Channel and a few
other media conglomerates seem to benefit from their pro war
stance. In order to beleive that consolidation isn't harmful,
you'd have to believe that it doesn't matter who owns the
media - this just doesn't pass the common sense test. Further
corporation of media spells out clear threats to independent
progressive media.

North Bay Kick-Off of the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride:
Anand Singh of Marin Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice.
Tonight march for immigrant rights at 6:00 pm in San Rafael
as a sendoff for the IWFR historic event. This can influence
laws and attitudes towards immigrants. Marin is a liberal
part of California, yet it is the home of Prop 187. It is
a place of low payed service workers living in the Canal "Barrio"
despite San Rafael's wealth. Interfaith march and program
highlighting celebrating immigrants. See: www.nicwj.org
