The Illegality of Exposing Operatives: Philip Agee, author
and exiled former CIA agent
Philip wrote a book in 1975 after seeing the horrendous
effects of US policy on Latin American politics. The book
revealed names of Agency agents within embassies and in the
field. US covert activities in Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and
the military dictatorship installed in Ecuador. Agee felt
the Agency should be neutralized and the policy behind it.
An outcome of his actions was the Intelligence Identities
Protection Act, a law that is highly relevant in the current
press outing of former Ambassador Joseph Wilson's wife Valerie
Plame. Philip discusses current implications.
