Poetry of Morechai Vanunu and Rainer Maria Rilke: Readings
by Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy
In 1985, working as a technician in an Israeli nuclear facility,
Mordechai Vanunu documented what was going on and revealed
his information to the London Sunday Times. Before its publication
he was abducted by Isreali agents and returned to Israel where
he has spent the past 18 years in prison for espionage and
treason. Nora Barrows-Friedman introduces a poetry reading
by Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy at a benefit for Vanunu reading
his poem "I Am Your Spy" as well as works from Rilke's
Book of Hours and their recently completed translation of
Selections from the Sonnets to Orpheus, drawing parallels
between the spirit of the two poets as "voices of consciouness"
for their times.
