Bush’s Immigrant Worker Initiative, Miguel Molina with
Juan Jose Guitierrez, from Education and Immigration Services
in Los Angeles. Governor and Teachers Association came to
agreement on a $2 Billion cut in education spending coming
on the heels of massive threats to immigrant rights. Latest
developments in Education and Immigration and the impact of
recent economic developments in California on the immigrant
community. In the 1990's an estimated 3 million immigrants
came to live and work in California. Immigrants represent
50% of the resident and labor force in California. Juan outlines
how these cutbacks affect the immigrant populations in California.
Full enrollments will not be funded , causing severe blows
and problems for the entire state's future. The Republican
Right has actively attacked bilingual education continuously.
ESL, English as a Second Language is an open target for cuts.
Big business will benefit while education of our youth and
our future will suffer.
