The Knight Report: An escalating quagmire in Iraq as continuing
resistance demonstrates the failure of mid-east style Vietnamization...
thousands more soldiers may be dispatched to quell the uprisings
which have claimed 130 lives, including as many as 3 dozen
Americans, and more than 300 wounded
Senator Kennedy: "Iraq is George Bush's Vietnam and
this country needs a new president"
Secretary Powell: "[Kennedy] should be a little more
restrained and careful in his comments because we are at war"
Hans Blix: "It's positive that Saddam and his bloody
regime is gone, but when one weighs the cost, it's clearly
the negative aspects that dominate"

Iraq Inflamed: Mideast scholar Asad Abu Khalil is interviewed
by Dennis Bernstein, discusses the latest violence in Iraq
and the US attempts to minimize its importance as contrasted
with non-US coverage. Offended by satirical articles about
him in a local weekly paper, CPA head Paul Bremer, claiming
"false articles" and inciting violence against occupation
forces, closed the newspaper touching off a maelstrom of anti-occupation
demonstrations and attacks. More on Angry

Powell Parade in Haiti: Flashpoints Special Correspondent
Lyn Duff, on the ground in Port-au-Prince, Haiti is interviewed
by Nora Barrows-Friedman, as she describes the spectacle surrounding
Colin Powell's visit on Monday. Amid protestors calling for
elections and respect for the Haitian constitution, Powell
and Latortue announced plans to launch an investigation and
possible prosecution of President Aristide for war crimes
(hold on just a minute... who made war on whom and who pleaded
for peace here?) The situation in Bellaire is described as
"worse than the 1991 coup" with marine attacks and
killings in the poor neighborhoods.
