Today on Flashpoints:
A report from the ground in occupied Baghdad, as our correspondent
continues his investigation into the accounts of torture;
a conversation with the director of "Hidden in Plain
Sight," an unflinching look at the nature and consequences
of US policy in Latin America via the School of the Americas;
we'll be featuring an excerpt of that film; and the Knight
Report;
5:01 PM PST
The Knight Report: The Bush Administration was criticized
by US troops, British attourneys, United Nations delegates,
liberals, and even conservatives for its ongoing conduct of
"the dumbest war ever" inside Iraq.
"...a grave error, and in some ways a continuing error"
Neocon Richard
Perle to the BBC on the ongoing Iraq occupation
5:07 PM PST
Iraq Dispatch: Dahr Jamail, interviewed by Nora Barrows-Friedman,

5:14 PM PST
School of the Americas: Documentary filmmaker John Smihula,
interviewed by Solange Echeverria, discusses his powerful
and shocking documentary Hidden
in Plain Sight and the parallels between the Latin American
lessons taught at the School
of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia (now renamed
Western
Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation) and the
abusive and degrading tactics being employed in Iraq. Most
Americans refuse to believe that the US conducts this kind
of training. Read more analysis at SOA
Watch.
"Anyone who's seen Hidden in Plain Sight could have
predicted everything lately revealed about the new prison
system in Iraq, and indeed the entire invasion-occupation
farce."
John Patterson
The Guardian, May 14, 2004
"We see a consistent pattern of the Pentagon claiming
to work for democracy," says Father Roy Bourgeois,
founder of SOA Watch, "while in their prisons and training
centers, reports of torture and human rights abuses continue
to surface."
5:31 PM PST
Hidden in Plain Sight: An audio excerpt from this astonishing
documentary, including commentary from Martin Sheen, Noam
Chomsky, Michael Parenti, Christopher Hitchens, SOA instructors,
and victims of the lessons taught.
Informative and provocative, this documentary presents
different points of view which illuminate the turbulent
reality of Latin America, demystify the policy-making process,
and shed light on some of the most complex and urgent problems
facing U.S. citizens today.
