School of the Americas: Documentary filmmaker John Smihula, interviewed by Solange Echeverria, discusses his powerful and shocking documentary Hidden in Plain Sight and the parallels between the Latin American lessons taught at the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia (now renamed Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation) and the abusive and degrading tactics being employed in Iraq. "Anyone who's seen Hidden in Plain Sight could have predicted everything lately revealed about the new prison system in Iraq, and indeed the entire invasion-occupation farce."
John Patterson
The Guardian, May 14, 2004

"We see a consistent pattern of the Pentagon claiming to work for democracy," says Father Roy Bourgeois, founder of SOA Watch, "while in their prisons and training centers, reports of torture and human rights abuses continue to surface."

5:31 PM PST
Hidden in Plain Sight: An audio excerpt from this astonishing documentary, including commentary from Martin Sheen, Noam Chomsky, Michael Parenti, Christopher Hitchens, SOA instructors, and victims of the lessons taught.

Informative and provocative, this documentary presents different points of view which illuminate the turbulent reality of Latin America, demystify the policy-making process, and shed light on some of the most complex and urgent problems facing U.S. citizens today.
