Stealing the 2004 Election. Greg Palast, author of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy.

In Berkeley, I'm Dennis Bernstein and you're listening to Flashpoints with Pacifica Radio. The likelihood of US elections being fixed or being undermined by fraud is close to a certainty this year. Revelation after revelation of various irregularities or registrartion fraud continue to surface. Among the most recent are

  • Criminal attempts to manipulate voter lists in Florida
  • False Registration Campaigns in Florida and other states
  • [58,000 Missing Absentee Ballots in Broward Florida voiding Democratic Votes]
  • [More Dirty Tricks Headlined Today in Democracynow.org]

Joining us for "A Primer on "How To Steal The 2004 Election" is Greg Palast. He is the author of "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" and the BBC Documentary "Bush Family Fortunes" and most recently "Voters Claim Abuse of Electoral Rolls" in the London Observer. Let's begin with the Observer article.

There 4000+ Florida students were allegedly conned into signing a form led them to be doubly registered. They thought they were signing forms supporting medical use of marijuana. Instead they were signing the back of registration forms. For their sins they were all re-registered as Republicans. Almost all of these students were now double registered with their registrations switched to other locales, voiding their vote.

It was a good way to capture progressive young Democrats and wipe out their votes. The perps were on the payroll of the Republican Party of Florida. Most stunning is not the 4000 students who had their civil rights stolen through a scam. This is a felony crime and Jeb Bush's cops were called by an angry father of one who happens to be the Elections Supervisor in Tallahasse and that is how this scam got caught.

He told the cops 'this is a class three misdemeanor, this is big jail time, we know who did it - go get them'. Jeb Bush's cops said "we're busy for now". What they have been doing instead is kicking in the doors of old black folk around the state, demanding if they really signed their absentee ballots. What we are seeing in Florida - and I just got back from filming there, is a return of Jim Crow Voting. It is more of an Apartheid System, because it is newer and more sophisticated than the old stuff from the early sixties.

More intimidation tactics can be viewed in this BBC's Greg Palast Newsnight Report From Florida Video.

In addition we found "caging lists" - lists to challenge black voters on election day saying their addresses are no longer valid. This too is a crime. The crime of profilling black voters for mass challenges. The list was prepared for the Executive Director of the Bush/Cheney Campaign in Florida and the Head of Research for the Republican National Committee in Washington. This is the top guys preparing to commit a race crime, they intend to completely sabatoge and block voting in black districts in Florida.

In Ohio, Republicans announced they were going to challenge voters. A couple of federal judges threw the gavels at them and said effectively 'Read the Constitution' - basically trying to enjoin and stop them. In Florida they have tried to keep the lists secret. Also because in Florida it is solely and only in African American communities - which is a crime. Since the Voting Act of 1965, nobody has done mass challenges of voters in America. This is a new game, which is horrifying Election Supervisors in both parties. Note that in Ohio, it was Republican Supervisors who said 'you will not do this, you cannot tell people not to vote'!

What are the chances of a fair election versus a Constitutional Crises. Palast replies zero percent, because the abuses are already occurring and documented. Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota and other states are also experiencing spoilage - bad voting machines that don't tally. Berkeley statistician estimates that of the roughly two million votes not counting in America, roughly half - a million votes dropped are of blacks. We have an Apartheid voting system in which literally votes are simply not counted if cast by black folk.

While this may be ignored or under reported in the US, it is recognized elsewhere. Greg Palast's BBC story on American Election Fraud is the number one news story worldwide outside of the United States.

Bush’s Bulge. Dave Lindorff, investigative reporter - Salon

The Administration says Bush was not wearing any electronics to ABC, The NY Times and this author. Nelson openly admits he is a supporter of Kerry and that he did this simply on his own initiative. Is this a stupid story? The main press is not touching it. Only you can decide if "the wrinkled shirt" excuse is Bush once again getting some much needed assistance and getting caught in yet another lie.
