Report from Baghdad
Dahr Jamail, FP Special Correspondent, www.dahrjamailiraq.com
As Fallujah crumbles under the weight of last week’s
vicious and bloody US-led attack on the city, the truth about
what really happened there remains another casualty. Corporate
mainstream journalists willfully embedded in the military
are more like Pentagon spokespeople than actual reporters.
And those on the other side, the few independent journalists
doing the hard work and writing the stories that paint a completely
different picture are being harassed and threatened by the
US-installed and US-controlled Iraqi interim government.
Joining us to assess the current situation and talk about
the rights of a free press in Iraq and this country is our
special correspondent Dahr Jamail. Dahr has been in Baghdad
for the past two weeks, and has been reporting for us on a
daily basis the real stories behind the American occupation
and the US-led military aggression sweeping the country. He
runs an impeccable website, www.dahrjamailiraq.com,
with reports, photographs
and deep analysis
of the western media’s portrayal of the war on Iraq.

Iraq and the Definition of Journalism - Robert
Fisk, award-winning author and journalist with the Independent
of London
Recently, the body which is believed to be that of humanitarian
aid worker Margaret Hassan was found. Hassan’s body,
mutilated and left to rot in the smoldering wreckage of Fallujah,
was just one of dozens of dead bodies of men, women and children
in the aftermath of the American-led assault on the city.
Someone who has been watching carefully the unfolding disaster
in Iraq and predicting the outcomes with troubling accraucy
is Robert
Fisk, award-winning author and journalist with the Independent
of London. He joins us now from Ireland.
