Story: Political
Debate on Iraq War
The Bush administration is pressuring Congress and the UN
to grant him authority to wage a pre-emptive attack against
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Former Vice President Al Gore
has entered the debate, weighing in against any pre-emptive
attack which he says could weaken our ability to win the war
against terrorism.

U.S. Representative Jim McDermott, in Baghdad this weekend,
says Bush is willing to ‘mislead the American people
about whether the war was needed.’ Even some Republican
lawmakers are raising questions about the administrations’
war agenda. During a senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing
last week, Republican Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana grappled
with the issue when questioned by Committee chairman Joe Biden.
Tape: Lugar
In defense of his plan, Bush accused Senate democrats of
putting party politics over national security issues and in
doing so retched up the tenor of the debate. Senator Tom Daschle
of South Dakota responds.

Story: Dissent within Tony Blair’s party
British Prime Minister Tony Blair, President Bush's biggest
ally in his push for military action against Iraq, will be
facing heat from members of his own party. George Galloway
is a 4 term member of Parliament and senior vice-chair of
the Labour Party's Foreign Affairs Committee. He is a staunch
opponent of any military offensive in the region.
Tape: Randi Zimmerman speaks with George Galloway
The Labour Party continues their annual conference in Blackpool
today and many expect rancorous debate over what will be their
official stance on the goals and possible action in Iraq.

Story: Reclaiming Patriotism
Since September 11th, the right wing has seemingly co-opted
the American flag as a symbol for revenge against Osama Bin
Laden and the Al Qaeda network. At Pacifica’s Peacewatch
we want to reclaim patriotism for those peaceloving Americans
who love their country equally.

Sanchez speaks with Amy Goodman and Verna Avery-Brown
