Story: UN deadlock
US troops have already begun amassing in the Gulf region,
as the Pentagon moves ahead with plans for an attack against
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. According to an article in
today’s Guardian in the UK, the Pentagon may be forced
to rethink its invasion timetable, thanks to certain members
of the UN
Security Council that have put a crimp in its plans.
Jim Paul, director of the Global Policy Institute says France,
Russia and China object to the language in the US resolution
and refuse to bring it forward for a vote in the General Council.
That leaves the threat of a veto, and the US scrambling for
a way around it.

Story: Student Activism Around the Country
Throughout the history of the political and social movements
in this country, student activism has played a critical role.
But where are the students in the days leading up to the attack
on Iraq? They’re mobilizing—we’re happy
to announce—in large numbers on campuses everywhere.
Guests:
Sachin Anand of Boston University
Josh Healy of the University of Wisconsin in Madison
Peta Lindsay of Howard University and International

Story: Musician Billy Bragg speaks out against war
Big labor got a treat this week when British singer, songwriter
and activist billy bragg played to a packed crowd at the AFL/CIO
headquarters in Washington, DC. They turned out there to rally
the vote to prevent the Senate from a Republican takeover
in the upcoming national election. David Russo from the DC
Indymedia Center was there, and he prepared this mix.

Story: Daniel Ellsberg speaks about his new book
Among the Vietnam-era critics who have spoken up in opposition
to the Bush administration's current war plans is former Pentagon
analyst Daniel Ellsberg. Ellsberg's 1972 release of the Pentagon
Papers to the New York Times marked a major milestone in the
movement against the Vietnam War. More recently, he authored
an autobiography entitled, "Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam
and the Pentagon Papers." In the midst of a book tour,
Daniel Ellsberg took some time out to speak with Pacifica
radio host Larry Bensky about his predictions of what could
occur in the Middle East if a war was launched...

Story: DC Reverend Grayland Hagler speech
The International
Socialist Organization organized a forum Wednesday to
detail why hundreds of thousands are expected to walk in opposition
to a war against Iraq on Saturday, October 26th. Rev. Grayland
Hagler from Plymouth Congregational Church in Washington,
DC articulated the affect of European imperialism, which he
traced to ancient Rome as described in the Book of Revelations.

Story: Spiritual response to the war
Pastor Johann Christoff Arnold, of the Bruderhof
