Story: University of Texas students vote against
the war
In addition to major anti-war rallies in Washington and
San Francisco this weekend, protests are due to take place
in dozens of cities around the country. In Nashville, Tennessee,
activists will hold an Anti-War Anti-Weapons march; in Taos,
New Mexico, marchers will gather outside the home of War Secretary
Donald Rumsfeld and in Texas, a peace march is scheduled in
San Antonio. In Austin—Bush’s hometown—students
at the University of Texas delivered the President what they’re
hoping will be an embarrassment to him politically. Forrest
Wilder is a senior at U.T. Austin. He describes a recent campus
debate around an anti-war resolution.

Breaking news story: Death of Senator Paul Wellstone
We learned today of the tragic and shocking news of the
death of U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone of Minnesota. He was
the only Senator up for reelection in a tight race that voted
against the Bush administration’s war resolution. Wellstone
died in a plane crash today near the Eveleth, Minnesota Municipal
Airport. His wife, daughter, three staff members and two crew
members were also reportedly killed. In Los Angeles in August

Story: Pre-emptive peace strike Report by Evan Davis
About 300 people gathered in Akron, Ohio yesterday to protest
the Whitehouse's plans for war against Iraq. With temperatures
hovering just above freezing in the dimming evening light,
the spirited crowd of students and youth, senior citizens,
veterans and clergy expressed a number of objections to Bush's
foreign military policy ranging from concerns over the cost
of the war to the U.S. economy to the injustice of threatening
innocent lives both in Iraq and here at home.
