Story: A JUST WAR DEBATE
The Bush administration is steamrolling ahead with plans
to invade Iraq and today Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld
committed to sending over 100-thousand American troops into
Baghdad as ground forces for the attack. Among those opposing
Bush's war agenda are religious and spiritual leaders some
of whom say, sending troops into Baghdad does not meet the
Christian theological standard of a 'just war'. Peace Watch
posed the question "is Iraq a just war" to three
religious leaders. Following is an excerpt of that debate.

Story: PRE-ELECTION VOTER AWARENESS
One U.S. official suggested this week that if the UN Security
Council appeared headed toward failure in its negotiations,
the Bush administration might delay the outcome until after
Election Day - to avoid an embarrassing defeat, and heightened
fears of war, just before voters head to the polls. Some callers
on Pacifica station WPFW voiced their opinion of politicians
who voted in favor of the congressional war resolution giving
president bush authority to wage war against the people of
Iraq. David Russo has more in this report.

Story: DOCUMENTARY: "HIDDEN WARS"
Nowadays, Bush's administration, Congress, analysts and protestors
of a war against Iraq have been discussing the issues involved
in today's build-up for a war against Iraq. In the U.N. Security
council, the U.K. supports Bush's war on Iraq while France
opposes a unilateral action and requests that the arms inspection
team be given a chance.
But what is the history of the relationship between Europe,
Iraq and the USA? A 2-year investigation called "Hidden
Wars of Desert Storm" brings us many of the answers,
taking it back to 1920.
Tape:"Hidden Wars of Desert Storm" based itself
on documents never seen before on television backed by hours
of interviews with us army commanders, arms inspectors, and
U.N. team leaders on Iraq issues. The soundtrack was scored
by composer Fritz Heede and the narration done by actor John
Hurt.

Story: NORMAN SOLOMON ON BUSHSPEAK
The defense department is planning a pre-emptive strike on
Iraq that might cause collateral damage. That's doesn't sound
too bad, but what if we said: the department of war is launching
a first strike on Iraq that will cause the deaths of innocent
women and children. The Bush administration and the corporate
media seem to be developing a language, reminiscent of Orwellian
newspeak, in order to sanitize the horrors of war. I spoke
to media critic Norman Solomon, in our WPFW studio, and ask
him how a war on Iraq is being marketed to the American people.

Story: POLITICAL HALLOWEEN COSTUMES INCLUDE "CHICKS
WITH DICKS"
As thousands came out last night to celebrate Halloween at
the annual parade in New York City, the usual festival atmosphere
was in evidence. However, it was clear that this is no normal
year. That we are living in a country on the verge of a war
that many people do not support was evident on the streets
of New York as many came out in costumes meant to send a political
message. Julie Hey was at the parade and files this report.
Tape: Julie Hey in New York City, joined by costumed revelers
with strap-on missiles.
