Show Intro
Story: Election Day Call-Ins and Interview with
Jesse Jackson
How is this electoral system serving us as a nation. Are
the wishes of the voters really getting expressed in the system,
such as it is? Are the candidates reflecting your will? Or
do you feel as though your interest are at best only nominally
represented? Damu
Smith, Founder of Black
Voices for Peace and host of Spirit In Action, a talk
show on Pacifica station WPFW in the nation’s capital
invited voter feedback and raised questions about developing
a new electoral system.

Story: Wellstone was right
Politicians have the thankless task of having to vote their
conscience while representing the interests of their constituents.
The recent vote on the President’s war resolution has
become a key issue in this election for some progressives.
But how is it playing at the polls ? Michelle Goldberg, staff
writer for Salon.com wrote an article entitled "Wellstone
Was Right".

an article in Saturday’s edition of Salon.com.

Story: DC Youth Views on the Election
What do the elections mean to the youth in DC? What are
their feelings about the build-up for a war against Iraq?
Ryme Katkhouda took the mic to Bar Nun where every Monday
night, young Washingtonians gather to drop some tunes, poems
and raps... an event produced by The Movement and One Common
Unity.

Story: Houston Students for Peace
On the campus of the University of Houston, Students United
for Peace held an anti-war demonstration yesterday. Planning
the event was an uphill battle. This is Bush country, and
promotional flyers and banners were torn down. Still, a diverse
collection of fourteen student groups signed on to co-sponsor
the demonstration, and many students that encountered the
event responded positively.

Independent Media Center and Renee Feltz of Pacifica station
KPFT bring us the voices
of students and speakers at the event.

Story: Russell Mokihiber on Ari Fleisher
Washington DC reporter Russell Mokhiber is the editor of
the Corporate Crime Reporter. He also publishes "Ari
and I", briefings from George Bush’s Press Secretary
Ari Fleisher. We spoke to him about these briefings.

Story: Artist and Musician Micheal Franti Speaks
Out
Although some critics describe singer/musician Michael
Franti as a rap artist, anyone attending his concerts
can hear the influences of R&B, jazz, reggae and of course,
rap and hip hop. Franti hails from Oakland, California and
was adopted at birth by white parents who lived in a predominately
black community in the Bay Area. As an artist, Franti has
addressed the issues of homelessness, police brutality, aids,
the death penalty and war. Reporter Dred-Scott Keyes of Pacifica
station WBAI in New York, spoke with Michael Franti during
an appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Hague.
