Story: Veteran’s roundtable:
The study of war is the topic du jour this Veterans Day
2002. If the US launches war against the people of Iraq, that
will raise to 64 the number of countries with US military
bases and troops. Among those opposing military attack on
Iraq are veterans who have fought in wars throughout history
around the world. In a special discussion on this Veterans
Day, Peacewatch spoke with four vets against the war.

Story: “Pledge”
To commemorate Veterans Day, President Bush laid a wreath
at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier this morning at Arlington
National Cemetery. Throughout the country today, people displayed
American flags and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. But ever
since the start of the Bush administration’s “War
on Terror,” many peace-loving Americans have felt somewhat
ambivalent about notions of patriotism and love of country.

Story: UN update
Iraqi president Saddam Hussein has ordered his parliament
to hold an emergency session on last week's Security Council
resolution calling for harsher weapons inspections in the
oil rich Middle Eastern nation. Arab League foreign ministers,
meeting Sunday in Egypt, urged the Iraqi president to accept
the resolution, and told journalists they believe Hussein
is ready to do so.
Meanwhile, speaking on "ABC- This Week," National
Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice ridiculed the Iraqi leader's
prospect of seeking parliament's advice as"ludicrous,"
saying "I'm surprised he's even bothering to go through
this ploy."
Britain's Defence Secretary Jeff Hoon sent similar signals
yesterday when he told "Sky News" that his country
was prepared for possible military action against Iraq should
diplomatic efforts to "disarm Saddam" fail.

Story: Anthrax Debate
As the Bush administration continues its discussion about
Iraqi threats of terrorism and its ownership of biological
weapons, WPFW’s Ryme Katkhouda went to Columbus, Ohio,
where military Anthrax is produced. She spoke with Bob Farakas,
an investigative journalist and co-editor of the Free Press
newspaper, who exposed Ohio's local research and the international
sales of Anthrax.

Story: High School Student Suspended for Voicing
Opposition to the War
Since September 11th of last year, a political climate has
developed in America where dissenting and disagreeing with
the Bush Administration’s policies to wage war is sometimes
risky business. Those who have summoned the courage to speak
out have sometimes had to suffer harsh consequences. Among
them is Troy Stewart, a senior at Marquette High School in
Marquette, Michigan. He spent Monday in in-school suspension
for expressing concerns about the impending war with Iraq
at a recent school pep rally.
