Story: J. Winter Night Wolf
On this day celebrated by many Americans as one set aside
for thanksgiving, we hear from the descendants of those who
first occupied this continent that’s come to be named
America. Many Native Americans observe this holiday far more
critically than others. With the Bush administration’s
drumbeat for an attack on the Iraqi people, some see stark
parallels between America’s past and the present.

Story: What it Means to Go to War
Barry Nanderos Thomas is a member of the American Indian
Movement-AIM, a youth counselor and a Gulf War veteran. He
spoke at the Ohio anti-war rally about what it means to go
to war. Each November as Americans celebrate the Thanksgiving
holiday, some Native Americans construct a prayer lodge in
honor of their ancestors. J. Winter Nightwolf, a member of
the Buffalo Ridge Cherokee and RICO NEWMAN of the Piscataway
Comoy people visited the lodge erected at the Vietnam Memorial
in Washington DC and spoke with Neithen and Chochona-Omaha
about war and peace.
