Story: Fund Anti-Aids Not War
As the buildup for a war against Iraq is amplified by the
media, domestic issues are overlooked and under-funded. Many
in Washington DC are trying to shed light on the tie between
the cut in funding for treatment of AIDS and money spent on
weapons and troops abroad. In preparation for the World AIDS
Day, over 500 concerned citizens marched in Washington DC
last Tuesday demanding funding for AIDS treatment instead
of funding the war. Thirty one activists were arrested. At
the 19th annual Robert Kennedy awards ceremony Dr. Jim Kim,
Director of the Program for Infectious Diseases and Social
Change celebrated making health advocacy a human rights issue.
