Story: Air Fleischer Speaks with Russell Mohkiber
re: Selling the War in Iraq
The Bush administration appears to be loosing ground in
it’s public relations campaign to convince Americans
it’s in our best interest to attack Iraq. Despite a
concerted effort by the Bush administration, more than two-thirds
of Americans believe the president has failed to make the
case that a war with Iraq is justified. According to the Los
Angeles Times, the overwhelming majority of respondents --
90% -- said they do not doubt that Iraq is developing weapons
of mass destruction. But in the absence of new evidence from
U.N. inspectors, 72% of respondents, including 60% of Republicans,
said the president has not provided enough evidence to justify
starting a war with Iraq.

Story: Congresswoman Maxine Waters re: Iraq weapons
inspection Report
The White House announced over the weekend that it essentially
rejects Saddam Hussein’s report accounting for its weapons
of mass destruction. The director of the International Atomic
Energy Agency, said they had hoped for new information, and
that what was submitted was [quote]“material we already
had before.” [unquote] The IAEA director says it could
take a year for inspectors to determine whether Iraq is free
of nuclear weapons

Story: Celebritites- Winning Without War
A group of over 100 celebrities have taken a stance on going
to war against Iraq and the consensus is…let’s
try another approach. They call themselves “ Actors
United to Win Without War.” One of the co-founders of
the group Actor Mike Farrell from the television series M.A.S.H
joined Peace Watch and another member of the group to discuss
their positions. Actress Janeane Garofalo, who appeared in
the film Reality Bites and on the Larry Sanders Show

Story: Turkish army in Northern Iraq
Media reports in Turkey today reveal Turkish military forces
are entering Northern Iraq in small numbers as part of a possible
advance team for invasion. Many observers believe Turkey may
be preparing to occupy and annex the oil rich areas of Mosul
and Kirkuk which were part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire until
1918.

Story: Sierra Club debate 15 min.
Environmentalists are weighing in against attacking Iraq…but
there’s a problem. There’s division within the
Sierra Club as to just what the anti-war resolution should
say.

Story: Micheal Kirk: Homeland Security Agency and
War on Terrorism
Congress recently passed the largest reorganization of the
Federal Government since the end of World War II, merging
22 agencies and 170,000 employees into the new "Department
of Homeland Security". Today, the Office of Personnel
Management held a press conference to brief the prospective
federal employees of the New Homeland security Agency. Peace
Watch wonders how this new entity might address the long-standing
problems in the intelligence agencies that permitted the 9/11
attacks. We also want to know how the homeland security act
might impact the war on terrorism and the war on Iraq. We
spoke to Frontline producer, Michael Kirk regarding his research
for The Man Who Knew and Gunning for Saddam.

Story: Arianna Huffington speech Forum: Price of
War with Iraq
Syndicated columnist Arianna Huffington spoke out recently
about how the bill that created this department was laden
with special favors to politically influential corporations,
as well as the Bush administrations manic attempt, against
all evidence, to link Saddam Hussein with Al-Qaeda."
