Story: Discussion on the Committee for the Liberation
of Iraq
Despite the Bush administration’s pronouncements that
it’s giving the UN process a chance to work before launching
an attack against the people of Iraq, a committee has been
formed for several months now with the objective of governing
Iraq after its President is assassinated or otherwise removed
from office by the U.S. and its allies. The Committee for
the Liberation of Iraq was formed to “promote peace,
political freedom and international security by replacing
the Saddam Hussein regime with a democratic government.”
The Chair of the Committee is Dr. Mahdi Al Bassam of the
Iraq Liberation Action Committee, and it’s made up of
representatives of several conservative Washington think tanks,
such as the American Enterprise Institute and the Carnegie
Foundation, as well as the National War College. Former U.S.
Congressman Newt Gingrich, Former Representative Bob Kerry,
Teamsters President James Hoffa and former Ambassador Jeane
Kirkpatrick are among the members of the committee.
