Story: US military targets Arab media - Media critic
Norman Solomon
After two Arab news agencies, the Al-Jazeera network and
Abu Dhabi television were bombed by US forces last week, questions
have risen over whether the US military is purposefully targeting
un-imbedded journalists. To get some analysis, Peacewatch
spoke earlier today with noted media critic and founder of
the Institute for Public Accuracy, Norman Solomon, who organized
two trips to Baghdad late last year with US Representative
Nick Rahall and actor Sean Penn.
We asked Solomon about his perspective on the recent attacks
of media sites, including the Palestine Hotel, where 250 international
journalists were stationed.

Tell You and The Habits of Highly Deceptive Media.

Story: The Arab world responds to the fall of Baghdad
The harsh reality of the fall of Baghdad last week echoed
fear, anger and pessimism around the Arab world. The sigh
of relief at the collapse of the dictatorial regime of Saddam
Hussein was short-lived, with Arabs both dismayed at the sight
of looting in Iraq and scared of a possible attack on Syria.
Today on Peacewatch, we'll check in with our reporters throughout
the region to see how people feel about the recent events.
We start with Oula Farawati in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

Turkish state minister Ali Babagan, who is in Washington
for the spring meetings of IMF and World Bank said that the
Turkish Economy has not been effected by the war. Meanwhile,
Foreign Minister of Israel Sylvan Shalom arrived in Istanbul
to discuss the consequences of the Iraq war with Turkish officials.
As Ezgi Saritas reports, while meetings are going on among
officials to discuss the aftermath of the war, the attitude
of the Turkish people towards the war is less accepting.

Finally, Peacewatch correspondent Raphael Krafft offers
this outlook from Cairo, Egypt.

Story: Pro-war Rally in Washington, DC
Last Saturday, the Conservative "Support the Troops,"
counter-rally filled the front of the national mall with several
thousand flag-waving demonstrators. Conservative commentators
promoted the rally and hosts on talk radio and the Fox TV
network. Independent reporter Eddie Becker attended the rally
and filed this snap shot report interview with a thirty-something
couple, Timmy Turner and Heather Merrill.

Among the thousands who participated in rallies, marches
and town hall meetings this weekend was Grayland Hagler, the
Pastor of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Washington
DC, who sketched a people's plan for moving forward.

Story: Lakota elder Johnson Holy Rock On the war
on Iraq
Lakota elder Johnson Holy Rock has seen, and done, more
than most people in his eighty-plus years. The former two-time
Oglala Sioux tribal president, tribal councilman, rancher
and soldier now serves his people as the tribe's "Fifth
Member" - a position that requires an in-depth knowledge
of treaties and treaty rights. Holy Rock possesses that knowledge,
as well as a greater awareness of the U.S. Constitution than
many non-Natives. But the well-respected Holy Rock recently
invited Peacewatch correspondent Jim Kent to his office to
share his views on another topic that's become even more of
a concern to him - the War in Iraq.
