Bush and Company

In the months leading up to the US’s war on Iraq, President Bush, Colin Powell and others in the Bush Administration continued to reassure the American people that they had proof that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

Congressional Investigations Into Lack of WMD by Congresswoman Maxine Waters

Congressman Dennis Kucinich introduced a resolution of inquiry in congress yesterday calling for Bush to turn over the intelligence used to back its claims that had weapons of mass destruction and posed an imminent threat to the US.

Several weeks after the US forces overthrew the Saddam Hussein regime, US forces have been unable to find any evidence of this purported arsenal of weapons of mass destruction. After searching more than 300 sites, the US forces have been unsuccessful in locating any of the massive stockpiles of chemical or biological weapons.

Peacewatch spoke with U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, a Democrat from California regarding the search for WMDs and asked whether it really mattered that we could not find them.

Immigrants Civil Liberties: Arthi

Arthi Shehani, of Families for Freedom, speaks on the Bush Administration's attack on immigrants and the growing division between citizens and non-citizens in the United States. Shehani expresses that the detention and deportation laws are being manipulated by law enforcement agencies targeting and infringing on the rights of a growing number of immigrants as part of the new national homeland security and the war on terrorism.

Tape: Arthi Shehani is an organizer of Families for Freedom, a New York area network of immigrants facing detention and deportation that consists of primarily Latinos and South Asian that live in the New York and New Jersey area. Thanks to Evan Davis for production assistance wit that speech.

Hightower is the former Agricultural Commissioner of Texas and the author of numerous books including: If the Gods had Meant us to Vote They Would Have Given us Candidates. Montage: Does It Matter that No WMDs Have Been Found?

Outside of the progressive movement - - - how many Americans really care whether weapons of mass destruction are ever located or not? Is it justification enough that the brutal, repressive regime of Saddam Hussein was brought down by the U.S. and Britain - - - regardless of the lack of evidence the Bush and Blair administration relied on to lead us into war. Well, Peacewatch production assistant Keith Shaljian took to the streets of the Nations’ Capitol to pose that question to residents, commuters and tourists from around the country. Here’s a bit of what they said.

Tape: produced by Peacewatch production assistant Keith Shaljian.
