Dr. Rahul Mahajan
As the process of rebuilding and so-called nation-building
in Iraq continues, the streets remain in a state of unrest,
and the country still has a vacuum of power left by the removal
of Saddam Hussein and his Ba'ath party leadership. Speaking
with The London Independent newspaper over the weekend, former
Iraqi foreign minister Adnan Pachachi-who's expected to play
a significant role in Iraq's transitional administration--
warned that the country needs some sort of government within
the next three weeks if it's to avoid falling into complete
chaos.
For analysis, Peacewatch spoke earlier today with Dr. Rahul
Mahajan, author of Full Spectrum Dominance: U.S. Power in
Iraq and Beyond. We asked him about the future of postwar
Iraq and whether he agrees with Pachachi's assessment.
Tape: Dr. Rahul Mahajan is the author of Full Spectrum Dominance:
U.S. Power in Iraq and Beyond.

Iraqi people is UNICEF, the United Nation's Children's Fund.
The organization recently issued a press release raising concerns
about child sickness from diarrhea and related diseases in
Iraq. Peacewatch spoke with UNICEF's Regional Communications
Officer Anis Salem, and asked him to describe the group's
findings.
Tape: Anis Salem is UNICEF's Regional Communications Officer

Tariq Ali on War, Empire and Resistance
The present occupation of Iraq by the US is not the first
time that one of the oldest civilizations in existence has
been subjected to occupying forces. Today on Peacewatch we
present a speech by Tariq Ali, political commentator and Pakistani
exile, tracing the historical development of the United States
as an occupying colonial empire.
In part one of a three part series, Ali helps to place the
events taking place in Iraq today in context of the US' historical
policy of economic, political engagement around the world.

The Populace of DC Speak Out
During a recent progressive gathering in Washington DC,
where activist, social critic Jim Hightower spoke about the
duty to dissent, the patriotism of activism and the power
of trickle-up politics, Peacewatch producer “T from
the Pattersons, Taking the Train to Tibet’ spoke with
some attendees about how public opinion has drifted noticeably
to ‘the right’. He asked the progressives if the
pendulum is likely to swing back to the left. Hightower himself
had a lot to say on the subject.
Tape: This segment was prepared by “T…of the
Pattersons, taking the train to Tibet.
