Seekers of Truth: Veterans' Sangha
In observance of this Independence Day, Peacewatch presents
this documentary of a veteran's sangha or retreat that took
place in August of 2002. In this piece we offer the chilling
voices of veterans telling stories of their adventures in
war never before told. The retreat was organized by Vietnamese
Buddhist monk, teacher and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Thich
Nhat Hanh at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. It
offered an opportunity for veterans to share their stories
in a non-judgmental environment.
Tape: "Seekers of the Truth: The Veterans Sangha,"
a collection of recordings from a veterans' retreat, produced
by Meg O'Shaughnessy of Peacespeak Productions and KVNF Public
Radio. For more information on Thich Nhat Hanh's retreats

Documentary special: “No Business as Usual:
The San Francisco Peace Movement Since October 2002”
Since the first national day of protest against the war on
Iraq on October 6th, 2002, the San Francisco anti-war movement
has played an instrumental role in demanding an end to US
military actions in the Middle East.
Bay area labor organizers, environmentalists, veterans, youth,
and mothers took to the streets in protest in the months leading
up to the war-- not only to speak out against a US-led invasion,
but to show solidarity with the people of Palestine and to
speak out against what they perceived as the crackdown on
civil liberties at home. They responded to the government
and media's attempts to marginalize them by shutting down
the city when the war on Iraq began, a war they say is still
not over.
Today on Peacewatch, we present a special, half hour documentary
created by independent producers Pauline Bartolone and Sarah
Olson. Listen in as the most influential figures in the San
Francisco peace movement tell us the story of their mobilization
since October, 2002. Their voices are weaved into sounds from
the street, highlighting the emotions of the most intense
anti-war movement in recent U.S. history.
