Program Director sought for listener-sponsored, free speech radio KPFK-FM 90.7 FM Los Angeles. Candidates should be experienced, dynamic and creative. KPFK provides public affairs, music, news, community based and some Spanish language programming.
The Program Director is responsible for the “sound” or programming format of the station – all music, news, community based/diversity programs, and other broadcasts. Working with the staff, producers, programmers, music director, the Local and National Station Board, and the community, the Program Director is responsible for monitoring and guiding the programming of the station.
Experience in working at a public radio station including on air fund raising a plus. Full-time position with benefits. KPFK is an EOE employer.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION


Purpose/General Description of Position:
Responsible for the “sound” or programming format of the station – all music, news, community based/diversity programs, and other broadcasts.
JOB STATUS: Full-time, Exempt, Non-Union
JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the General Manager, the Program Director is a member of the Station’s management team with responsibility for overseeing programming on our community based radio station.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises programming department heads including evaluating performance, providing training and making recommendations for staffing.

I. General Functions
A. Supervise programming format
B. Develop and institute a program evaluation system
C. Coordinate programming needs with Operations, Administration and Training
D. Supervise programming department heads
E. Coordinate programming with the National Programming Director and other Pacifica stations
F. Communicate with staff
G. Develop Audience Research
H. Participate as a member of the station management team

II. Specific Responsibilities
A. Supervise programming format
1. Develop programming philosophy and policies in collaboration with local staff
2. Improve air sound.
3. Solicit and evaluate program proposals
4. Make final programming decisions
5. Assure compliance with FCC and Pacifica rules and regulations
6. Coordinate the development of special programs
7. Evaluate performance of each program in terms of production values, compliance with mission, ability to attract audience, and ability to attract financial support
8. Espouse the rights and promote the interests of groups inadequately represented in the media

B Participate in the appeals process of the Program Council regarding evaluation and program changes

C. Staff Development and Supervision
1. Upgrade staff skills and develop media training
2. Select and acquire premiums in consultation with the GM
3. Facilitate entry of graduate apprentices into programming and other departments
4. Participate in off-air fund raising and community events

D. Community Relations
1. Chair Program Council meetings
2. Evaluate the work of all those reporting directly to the program director.

E.
1. Participate in the development of national programs
2. Discuss plans, programming and process regularly with staff
3. Provide input to national staff

F.
1. Comply with the union and individual contracts
2. Call meetings with staff as necessary to discuss programming and other issues
3. Participate in staff meetings as necessary

G.
1. Coordinate work with other members of the management team
2. Report to General Manager

H. Participate in budget preparation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be knowledgeable about radio programming and able to listen to station programming throughout the week including evenings and weekends.
Must be willing to work in excess of 40 hours per week, in the evenings and on some weekends.
Must be highly motivated with good oral and written communication skills and capable of leadership by example.
Must be able to work in a collegial professional manner with a diverse workforce, members of the local and national boards and members of the community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
College degree preferred
Five years’ experience in broadcasting, management, and related field(s) required
Experience managing diverse workforce required.

JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTING MANAGER

JOB DUTIES:
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice. Report to supervisor regarding the finances of establishment.
  • Establish tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
  • Prepare forms and manuals for accounting and bookkeeping personnel, and direct their work activities.
  • Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, or maintain solutions to business and financial problems.

REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree in Accounting, OR Bachelor's Degree in Accounting plus 5 years of experience as an Accountant
